Mark Hardin Memorial Air Race

Terrell Municipal Airport will host the Mark Hardin Memorial Air Race on Saturday, May 27. Bring the family out to watch as racers arrive throughout the morning, enjoy gourmet fare from The Butchers Son food truck, and cool down with a shaved ice from Kona Ice. Both trucks will be on site from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. There is no charge for visitors to watch the race, which will begin at 1 p.m.

This is the seventh year the Sport Air Racing League (SARL) sanctioned event has been held in Terrell. In 2015 the event was renamed the Mark Hardin Memorial Air Race to honor the late Mark Hardin, longtime Terrell resident and airport manager. The event always attracts a large contingent of Ercoupe planes, Mr. Hardin's preferred aircraft. A special namesake trophy will go to the pilot who best displays the spirit he embodied: a sense of fair play, true camaraderie and a love of aviation

All makes and models of aircraft can participate in the race, which covers a 130 nautical mile course. The racer registration fee is $45 for SARL members and $55 for non-members, and includes an event t-shirt, decals and goody bags, as well as a Friday night pilot get-together. For information on racing or to register, pilots may visit or contact Patricia Purcell, 903-564-9410.
